Set in the hills that separate the higher part of Val d’Orcia from the Valdichiana, the small town of Chianciano Terme offers beautiful landscapes, a great historical heritage and a great experience in the spa, for the well-being of the body and mind. Chianciano was probably an Etruscan centre of some importance, given the proximity of the thermal springs that are said to have been used by Porsenna, king of Chiusi, and then widely used in Roman times. The old core of the city is called Chianciano Vecchia, although many in the city simply call it Town, and is perched on a hill with features of its ancient walls and its original urban plan, elements that distinguish it clearly from the modern Chianciano , which developed around the areas of the spas.

Clock Tower
To access the city the best point is the entrance from Viale Dante, passing the elegant Porta Rivellini that leads to the town along Via Casini. To be seen are the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the Clock Tower, from where you can admire a beautiful panorama, the Collegiate or Church of San Giovanni Battista and the Porta del Sole, built in exposed brick and equipped with two side towers that terminate in a cusp of steps.
Chianciano’s fortune in the various eras has always been linked to the thermal waters, which flow from five different springs called Acquasanta, Acqua Santissima, Acqua Fucoli, Acqua Sillene and Acqua Sant’Elena. The Acquasanta gushes out at 33 ° C and is effective for diseases of the liver and biliary tract; the Acqua Santissima is used for the affections of the respiratory tract; Fucoli mineral water flows cold, and is used in gastro-enteric and biliary diseases; Acqua Sillene gushes at a high temperature, at 38.5 ° C, and is used in carbo-gaseous balneotherapy and in the creation of thermal mud, used for the treatment of cardiovascular disorders and in health and wellness treatments; finally, the Sant’Elena spring is a water with diuretic and curative properties of the urinary tract. Chianciano then proposes its itineraries called Terme Sensoriali, that is specific routes for body care, ranging from aroma therapy to Turkish baths, from musicoterpy to walking on river rocks, from chromotherapy to sensory showers.
Chianciano Terme was also the city of Fellini, immediately after the native Rimini. The director was in Chianciano for a long time, and in the Tuscan town he set his “8 and 1/2”, considered one of the best cinematographic films ever made. Luigi Pirandello also chose Chianciano for two of his stories, “Acqua Amara” and “Pallino e Mimì”.

Climate
Chianciano Terme enjoys a mild and pleasant climate. There is no besttime to spend a holiday or a weekend, as every season has something that makes the stay interesting and special. Less rainy periods are generally summer and winter. In summer, the days are warm and sunny, but fortunately the height of Chianciano (about 500 meters above sea level), tempers the heat and allows you to sleep at night without the heat that envelops the plains. The hilly landscapes become extraordinarily beautiful in autumn and winter, with the grazing light and the mists that trace spectacular drawings among the valleys.
